5 Reasons Why We Tell Stories

 1.   SO YOU CAN PLANT IDEAS
By simply telling a story, you could plant ideas, thoughts and emotions into the listeners’ brain.

2.   WE LIKE STORIES
What’s not to like? Stories are illustrative, relatable and memorable. Stories engages us, entertain us and helps  build strong connection with our listeners.

3.   WE ARE BORN TO TELL STORIES
As human beings, we are natural storytellers – we can’t help telling stories. We even turn things that aren’t really stories into stories because we like narratives so much.

 4.   WE ARE WIRED TO RELATE TO PEOPLE WHO TELLS A STORY
Whenever we hear a story, we instantly relate it back to our own personal experiences. While we are busy searching for a similar memory in our brain, we activate a part called insula, which help us relate to the same experience of pain, joy or disgust.

 5.   STORIES INSPIRE ACTION
Stories are uniquely able to move people’s hearts, minds, feel and wallet in the speaker’s intended direction. Stories can motivate an audience towards your goal. Nobody was better at this than Steve Jobs, who turned sales presentation into coveted experience. The way he told the story motivated fans to rave about the products, creating valuable earned media.
